What is MLD ?
WHAT IS MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE?
The lymphatic system is a crucial part of the body's immune system, responsible for maintaining fluid balance, absorbing fats from the digestive system, and filtering out toxins and waste products. It consists of a network of vessels, lymph nodes, and organs like the spleen and thymus.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage MLD utilizes gentle movements to effectively stimulate the lymphatic system which aids in optimizing lymphatic function, promoting detoxification, reducing swelling, and supporting injuries, post-surgical and overall health and well-being.
Surgery produces swelling as part of the body’s normal healing process and often disrupts the pathways of the lymphatic system. Clients may experience “lumpiness”, heal slowly, and or be at risk for fibrosis. Women may develop lymphedema years after a mastectomy with lymph node removal. Manual Lymphatic drainage helps to reroute the disrupted pathways to ensure proper drainage and decrease inflammation and fibrosis.
